the label booklet for Banvel, one of most potent, advises to rinse and purge
with water, then fill with 1 quart household ammonia to 25 gal water,
operate pump and discharge some thru nozzle, then let solution stand for
several hours, preferrably overnight. If mixed with wettable powders,
emulsible concentrates, etc., first wash with detergent, then ammonia.
Probably less potent herbicides wouldn't require as much effort, but if it
were my trees I wouldn't take a chance. I have a dedicated sprayer for
herbicides, never use for anything else.
