Re: [nafex] Re: A Note of Concern About this Forum

My perspective of the issue is as follows:

It is true that NAFEX faces the loss of its senior members who have valuable experience of fruit growing.

Efforts should be undertaken to preserve this knowledge and expertise.

A separate issue is the access to and distribution of this
information.

The force of the internet is obvious and as more students graduate from high school and college, it will be the preferred method to acquire horticultural information and network with others who share a similar passion.

I understand that over 60% of USA households have internet access in their homes. Individual access is likely higher when work and school connectivity is considered.

How this forum evolves should be unfettered by those individuals who prefer a printed copy of POMONA. The goals of electronic distribution can provide critical information in a timely way that POMONA can never deliver. This forum responds to the users and provides urgent feedback that appeals to those that participate in the forum. These snapshots of information don't require the investment of time compared to the effort to research and write a quality article for POMONA.

Both efforts compliment each other and are not mutually exclusive.

Archiving the information on this forum can be as simple as combining exchanges that relate to a specific subject topic.
Of course people will have to limit their inquires to a single subject that allows the exchanges to be easily indexed and thus serve as a searchable database.
