Re: vCJD spread in blood transfusions

Replying to Lawrence London,
From material available on the web the use of high bypass protein
including blood meal and dried meat is only advised for calving heifers
in beef production , but there it is said to improve calving. I have not
had good success locating the proportion of dairy cattle in the meat
supply and I think that may depend on the general location, an area of
dairy production etc. It seems like it would be a good idea to identify
beef from dairy cattle in the market. I am including below an
interesting quote from the web. Sincerely, joe cummins
http://www.angelfire.com/folk/realmilkalliance/page11.html
Cows on pasture typically live through eight to ten lactations (or
births) for a total of ten to 12 years. Cows in confinement, fed grain
and soybeans, average 1.8 lactations. When they become unable to produce
milk, or when their ankles can no longer hold up on the cement floors,
they are shipped off to the butcher. About 25 percent of the meat
consumed in America comes from these “downer” cows. The problem of
downer cows in confinement dairies is increasing, even though
antibiotics, drugs and nutrient supplements are routinely added to
animal feed. We hear that in some confinement dairies, the typical cow
is milked through one long lactation and then slaughtered. This eats
into profits and has the vets throwing up heir hands in defeat.

Transfer of vCJD by blood transfusion is being taken seriously in UK. In
spite of the evidence of spread in blood USDA still allows use of blood
meal in cattle feed. That threatens cows with BSE and farm hands with
vCJD through exposure to blood in cuts and lesions along with breathing
dust from cattle feed. USDA's crazed indifference is perplexing. Do they
patent blood meal diets along with GM crops?
Patient's death from vCJD may be linked to blood transfusion

And in some areas of the US extension agents are treating with smug
indifference
and stonewalling suggestions that they try to promote grass fed
livestock raising in
their domain of influence as an alternative to high production methods
of feeding
using high protein supplements.

Is the use of bypass protein just used in dairy farming or in the meat
industry also?
