I have a group of roses showing low colonization of mycorrhizae but the soil
has high to very high phosphorus levels (Morgan test). The pH was 5.1,
making phosphorus relatively unavailable to the plant, but I modified it
using hydrated lime about a month ago. This is old fertilizer that has been
down for a year or more. I have only added small amounts of phosphorus in
foliar or fish/kelp liquid feeds.

My SFI test suggests inoculation with mycorrhizae. I've ordered the VAM --
but this research suggests that I am not likely to be successful in
colonizing the rose roots at present due to the high phosphorus levels.

I would appreciate comments from anyone with experience in similar soil
situations.

thanks.

Chris Reid
