I too am a grad student studying urban agriculture. The International
Development Research Centre (in Canada) recently published Cities
Feeding People: An Examination of Urban Agriculture in East Africa, by
Egziabher, et al. I found it interesting. (You can get info from
order@idrc.ca.)
Also interesting is Freeman, D.B. (1991). A city of farmers: Informal
urban agriculture in the open spaces of Nairobi, Kenya.
(Africa isn't my angle, but I found these books interesting and useful
nonetheless.)
