Tim Leary spoke at the University of Iowa one year before his death and
his 4th visit was packed with 1200 people just like before. For his first
visit he came to sort of Woodstock at our Fairgrounds in 1969 and spoke
briefly about "Sunshine". I first met Tim in the fall of 1967 when he was
promoting "Drop City" Remember that one?
He got front page coverage in the "Daily Iowan" in 1995 with a nice
profile picture against a green laser background. The odd thing is that
the anti-hippy reaction was as strong in our area as anywhere and there
are no old timers left beyond a few.
I agree with you about all the contradictions around Tim but look where
he came from and especially his age at the time he turned on. He is what
literary types could call the true "Postmodern individual"
