Ducks love 'em to death, if you're in a place where you can raise ducks.
Side benefits of this are duck eggs, feathers, duck poop for fertilizer,
Duck A l'Orange and feathers for decoration and/or feather meal.
I try to avoid adding *any* salt to my soil. Irrigating with groundwater
already does that.
Other possible remedies: Picking after dark (yecch), sprinkling
diatomaceous earth (DE) around your plants (microscopic sharp points that
hurt slugs & snails to crawl over - this will have to be reapplied after
rains and/or watering), crushed eggshells, and copper strips.
I'm sure there's more...that's just off the top of my head.
