burlap bags

One of our CSA members has a coffee roasting business and brings us burlap
bags by the truckload. We've easily found uses for the 10-15 bags/year
that came our way before this; truckloads are a challenge. Do any of you
have experience using this resource?( my daughter says"I've got it, Mom:
We'll re-paper(bag) the swamp!" I tried them as flooring in our tunnel
greenhouse, and got mold and mildew. They're great for keeping certain
crucial areas of the chicken yard from becoming a mud wallow - this is the
Pacific Northwet. I"m using them now to cover paths in the perennial beds,
but there's still big pile. Some of the bags are from organic coffee, some
are not. We worry a bit about herbicide/pesticide residue on the bags,
although I've been assured that would be on the husk, not the bean. Any
ideas are welcome.
