Subject: Usenet news: sci.environment.forests ?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Forest ListServ -
I have run a small Majordomo list out of Baltimore (US) for
tree stewards, called Tree-House Discussion List for Community
Forestry, for the past 2 years. I am thinking of formally
proposing to Usenet a new newsgroup -- sci.environment.forests.
You can contact me if you have any thoughts on this, in support
or otherwise. Before you suggest a different name, however,
understand that Usenet has a strict logic for categorizing groups
within their 'big eight' heirarchies. 'sci.environment.forests'
would allow for future expansions into ...restoration ...urban
...trees ...national ...rain ...old-growth and so on. It
would be helpful to hear from organizations and individuals
who might benefit from access to such a world-wide forum.
Currently, Usenet proper carries no groups dedicated to 'forest'
or to 'tree' -- although some alternative newsgroups are active.
All the best,
