COMPOSTING / ORGANIC GARDENING EDUCATOR
Washington, D.C.

Background:  Garden Resources of Washington (GROW) is a non-profit
organization that promotes neighborhood revitalization and self-reliance,
local food production, and environmental stewardship by helping city residents
start community food gardens and neighborhood beautifications.   

Job Description:  The Composting / Organic Gardening Educator will establish
and maintain demonstration sites in three neighborhoods across the District of
Columbia and provide workshops to community gardeners, volunteers, and
residents of the surrounding neighborhoods.   

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
-- creating and maintaining gardening and composting demonstration sites
-- teaching gardening and composting
-- working in diverse low-income neighborhoods with residents of all ages
-- conducting community outreach
-- writing educational fact sheets and newsletter articles
    
Qualifications:
-- solid knowledge of organic gardening and composting
-- highly organized, creative, self-motivated, and flexible
-- excellent people skills
-- substantial experience teaching others 
-- experience supervising others
-- works effectively both independently and in a team
-- basic familiarity with computers
-- proven commitment to community service
-- valid driver's license
   (carpentry skills a plus)
