Tributes Paid To Murdered Former Newsreader

Tributes are being paid to a former BBC newsreader who was hacked to
death in a triple
murder at a relative's home in Trinidad. Lynette Pearson, who was
formerly Lynette Lithgow,
had worked at the BBC in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Mrs Pearson,
her British
brother-in-law John Cropper and her 83-year-old mother Maggie Lee,
were found dead on Thursday.

Mrs Pearson, who was looking after Mrs Lee at the family home, began
her BBC career
in Nottingham, presenting BBC Midlands Today. An editor of that
programme, Kevin Hill,
said: "Lynette was a joy to work with. She was a lovely warm person
who thought more of her
colleagues and friends than she did of herself. There was always a
smile on her face and she
absolutely sparkled on screen."

Mrs Pearson then worked on daytime bulletins and presented See Hear, a
television programme for
the deaf. Following a postgraduate Law degree at Oxford, she joined
CNBC in Singapore. She was
then offered a fellowship at Harvard sponsored by the Kennedy
Institute. She was a published author
and had two grown-up children. Richard Sambrook, director of BBC News,
said: "Lynette was a much
trusted and popular colleague in BBC News who presented news summaries
on BBC1 with supreme
professionalism before moving to become one of the key presenters when
BBC World was launched.

"She also made a huge contribution to the BBC's regional journalism,
presenting TV programmes with
a combination of calm and human warmth. She will be much missed by all
who worked with her, at
every level."

The victims had been enjoying a tea party at their home near the
capital Port-of-Spain
when robbers burst into the house. The attackers stole the family car
and other valuables,
detectives said.
