Thanks all for what has been a very informative discussion! I have a
question about the following snip from Toby's posting:

Could someone fill me in on the context of this line? Where did the term
come from? Why isn't it true? Past--when? This seems like something that
must have some history behind it. I'm curious about it, if anyone has the
time.
