Miekal,
there is a product called 'Lac-Balsam'. It's 'arificial bark' so to speak and is
commonly used to seal pruning cuts, grafts or damaged bark.
It is produced by a company called Scheidler, in Germany. Not sure whether it's
available in the US. I'd ask a tree surgeon in your area. Hope you can save your
trees.
