GBlist: question on cellulose
Hi all,
I'm new to the list but have been interested in greenbuilding for
awhile.
I am building my own home and have come to the point where I'm about
to insulate it. This group seems to be at a higher level of
intelligence so I thought I'd post my question here.
My house is a geodesic dome.
It is located just west of Austin TX.
The shell/wall cavity of the dome is 14" thick with the following
cross-section.
30yr asphalt Shingles - not the best choice for TX but that's a whole
other story.
3/4" plywood sheathing
radiant barrier - facing down
5.5" vented air space - This is a passive cooling feature that has
inlet near the bottom of the dome and an exhaust vent at the top.
1/8" hardboard to separate insulation from vented air space.
7" of cellulose insulation - not yet installed.
possibly Tyvek - this is the part I need help on.
Finally,
1"x8" shiplap yellow pine boards - exposed to interior.
Question is: what to put between the cellulose and the tongue and
groove boards.
A poly vapor barrier is out of the question because of the humid
climate here.
I have a slight concern about off-gassing but mainly its the dust from
the cellulose slipping past the tongue and groove that worrys me.
Does Tyvek seem like the best solution? I'ld like to find something
less expensive.
I know Tyvek is great for stopping air infiltration but will it block
off-gassing of the ink in cellulose?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken Hilla
