Try this super science trick!

What you Need:

white vinegar
one raw egg (in its shell)
one clear container

What to Do:

  1. Carefully place the egg in the container.
  2. Before adding vinegar, make predictions about what will happen to the egg as the vinegar is added. Then, fill the container with vinegar.
  3. Observe changes in the egg over the next two days. Notice how the egg floats and sinks, and eventually becomes soft and translucent.
What Happened?

The acidic vinegar reacted with the egg's basic calcite shell to create bubbles. Eventually, the vinegar dissolved the calcite shell to leave only the egg and its membranes.
