Abstract: "This thesis is an analysis of the selectivity of interregional migrants from the North to the South and from the South to the North in the United States for the time periods of 1970-1975, 1975-1980, and 1980-1983. The data analyzed are from the March 1975, March 1980, and the March 1983 Current Population Surveys. Six selectivity characteristics are related to interregional migration: education, housing tenure, race, occupation, age, and dual-worker families. Hypotheses are developed and tested which relate these characteristics to time and stream-specific migration. The principal assumption of the research is that changes in social and economic conditions in each region are reflected in changes in the selectivity of migrants. |
