Using content analysis, one hundred forty-four recommended works of realistic fiction set in the South have been evaluated in terms of these areas which reflect the major ideas and institutions emphasized in Southern life: the economy; race relations; education; religion; cultural development; and society and social diversions, including class structure, home and family life, the role of women, speech, food and recreation. |
