Title: A series of case studies examining the performance technology and diffusion of innovation practices of quality improvement teams

Abstract: "Using a case study methodology, this study examines six quality improvement teams in three organizations. The purpose of the study was to develop a quality improvement model which integrates current quality improvement processes, performance technology processes and diffusion of innovation processes; describe how six quality improvement teams created and implemented their ideas; identify patterns among the teams which illustrate how the teams used the quality improvement, performance technology, and diffusion of innovation processes; and, develop recommendations which can be used by teams to increase the adoption of their ideas.

Results indicate these teams used the training they received and management supported the teams. For four of the teams, management did not prepare the environment to accept the ideas of the team by employing neither a performance technology or a diffusion of innovation process.

Recommendations are included in the following areas: specific training in diffusion of innovation, setting goals, roles for team advisors, both formal and personal recognition, addressing ineffective teams, preparing people to accept ideas, addressing organizational cultural issues and management of the teams."
