The work is particularly concerned with the engendering of the migration process with a focus on women's experiences. I also deal critically with shifts in racial identity and the negotiation between migration experience and the needs and ideologies of Dominican non-migrants. Finally, the dissertation combines history, literature, and anthropology, in order to unpack how both the real and the imagined combine to (re)create Dominican identity across space. |
