Title: Theoretical study on the chemical reaction mechanisms of metal containing complexes

Abstract: Density functional theory, as a powerful tool in the elucidation of complex chemical phenomena, has been employed to study the reaction mechanism of various transition metal-containing processes. Structures and energies of numerous intermediate and transition state structures for complicated series of reactions are determined and the kinetic and thermodynamic of the entire process is investigated. Reactions of our interest in this dissertation include: (1) Nucleophilic Attack and Protonation of Electron-Deficient Benzoheterocycle Triosmium Clusters, (2) Mo-carbonyl Catalyzed Alkynol Cycloisomerization: Comparison with W-catalyzed Reaction, (3) Platinum(II)-Mediated Bicyclization of 1,6-Dienylphenols, and (4) Chelation-assisted C-H Bond Activation by Rh(I) Catalyst, which are discussed in chapters 1- 4, respectively.
