By utilizing an enormous quantity of disperse sources, the effectuation of these new indicators was possible. The discoveries achieved in this work re-examine and modify the information and ideas already available on this topic. The most prominent author on this subject, Jeffrey Bortz, previously constructed a theory whose purpose was to explain Mexico's economic growth since 1939. In order to test his hypothesis, his estimation of Real Wages was an essential element to support his argument, which states that the economic growth was a result of a maintained contraction in the workers' real wage. The estimations attained in this dissertation prove that Bortz's initial assertion is incorrect. The major finding in this work is that such a contraction (between 1939 and 1970) did not take place; but instead, the real wages were duplicated during this period of time. Another result shows that the most recent wage drop (during the early 1980s) is the more dramatic that the one in the 1930s. |
