Specifically, I examine how members managed their participation in decision-making activities to insure that all members were of equal standing despite differences in standing that were relevant with respect to other domains of interaction. Participation was achieved differently depending on the kind of decision-making activity involved. All members were expected and invited to participate in making conduct-related decisions that affected how the group conducted its affairs. Members also were expected to participate when making important decisions. On the other hand, members could elect to participate or allow others to act on their behalf when it came to many mission-related decisions. |
