OAIbiblio

ibiblio's PHP, OAI-PMH Data Provider Implementation

Description:

OAIbiblio is a data provider implementation of the OAI-PMH, version 2.0. This toolkit can be easily customized to communicate with an already existing, multi-table MySQL database.

Features:

  • XSL (eXtensible Stylesheet Language) files are used to make the metadata mappings.
  • WDDX passes around generic XML files containing entire database records. XSL files filter out unwanted and targeted fields resulting in the retention of highly expressive, storage-level metadata.
  • Individual documents may have unique associations with metadata formats and sets.
  • Database queries are in a separate layer than the application, making it easier to install/make changes.
  • Supports multi-table database structures.
  • Tools for creating and editing sets and documents are available.
  • Sets are recursive so depth isn't an issue.
  • Runs with MySQL. (DB abstraction is no longer supported.)
  • All required software is open-source.

The simple version only exposes metadata; it doesn't manage it (edit, delete, update). See Osprey.
