Hi there,
Hard trying to fit that all in the subject line. I dont know if I did. I
have recently discovered a pair of Red Shouldered Hawks nesting in my
neighborhood .They are nesting right along the side of a little road.
Everyday I can see one or both of them sitting on the nest, about 60 feet up.
Its wild. I just cant wait for them to have young.
Today my dad ken and I went to Landsford Canal State Park to bird, and
hopefully see some summer arrivals. We did indeed, along with some other
stuff.
Highlights included:
Black Vulture
BALD EAGLE - wow. a beautiful pair nesting in the crown of a pine tree, down
the nature trail, before you get to the spider lilies. the nest is absolutely
immense(about ten feet high, eight feet wide) Watched one of the parents sit
on the nest through the spotting scope for a while. A truly majestic bird.
Yes there were other birds as well.
DC Cormorant
Purple Martin-coming into the park on the right side of the road there are
about 20 nesting in gourds.
Rough Winged Swallow- not sure, but by process of elimination
Ruby Crowned Kinglet - this handsome one was singing away
Red Eyed Vireo
White Eyed Vireo
Blue Gray Gnatcatcher
Yellow Rumped Warbler
Pine Warbler
Yellow Throated Warbler
Northern Parula
Louisiana Waterthrush - there were a few of 'em chinkin' around. One sat 30
ft. up a beech tree and starting singing his heart out.
Got the first Chimney Swifts of the year at home too, along with already born
House Finch chicks. Isn't sort of early? They might get 3 or 4 broods off.
Ive got a question too. Does anyone know if Euarasian Collared Doves are
having any negative affects on other species in the US?
