Hi Folks,

Thanks for the replies. It would seem that a tail feather of the 
yellow-shafted flicker is the most likely source of my find. The 
coarser bristles at the tip are specialized structures for 
maintaining a grip on vertical bark, I am told. A very beautiful 
addition to my feather collection!
