Re: BIG NEWS--D. Sibley to visit the Spring CBC Meeting

I heard David Sibley lecture last week at ABA in Texas. He did a workshop on
the  topic he wrote on in a recent issue of Birding: feather groups in
passerines. It was magic. He made a drawing of the outline of a typical
passerine. Taking suggestions from the audience for species, he showed how
the outline can be turned into almost any species by coloring in the feather
groups (eye rings, supercilium, ear patch, lateral throat stripes, etc.) When
he finished the first demo, people applauded even though it was not the end
of the workshop. All this helps to understand how to look for and remember
field marks in a more thorough way. This guy really is something special.
