After she got home from teaching, she walked down to the Little
River and heard the loud insistent rattling of a kingfisher. She edged her
way towards the river bank, hearing the kingfisher all the time. Just then
a wild turkey flew up the river with the kingfisher in hot pursuit. The
turkey ducked into the woods. However, the kingfisher was not
satisfied. It flew up and back over the stream calling loudly all the
time. It then spotted the turkey making its way up the ridge and charged
of into the woods.
Any ideas of what the turkey might have done to earn the enmity of the
kingfisher?
She then spotted Scarlet and Summer Tanager in the same tree. All of a
sudden, she spotted the juvenile barred owl in that tree which was 150 yds
from the nest tree. Not bad locomotion for a bird without primaries or
tail feathers. Hope it doesn't get poison ivy.
On a spring day like today, retirement sounds attractive
