Hello, this is a May 18 update of the Carolina Rare Bird Alert featuring 
birding news from North and South Carolina sponsored by the Carolina Bird 
Club. Highlights on this report include:

WHITE - TAILED KITE
WHITE - WINGED DOVE
SWALLOW -TAILED KITE
MISSISSIPPI KITE

A WHITE - TAILED KITE was reported from the end of SR 1145 in Currituck 
County , NC on 5-16. This is known as Piney Island Rd. 

A WHITE -WINGED DOVE was at a feeder in Wilmington, NC  May 14 and 15. Call 
Bruce Smithson at 910- 799- 5083 to see if the dove is still around.

SWALLOW-TAILED KITES can still be seen in NC through May. One was seen May 12 
near Norfleet, NC ( Halifax Co.) in the Ventosa Plantation area. A 
MISSISSIPPI KITE was also seen in the same area.

MISSISSIPPI KITES have been reported the this week from Smithfield, NC ; 
Croatan NF near New Bern, NC ; and Laurinburg, NC at the Laurinburg 
Presbyterian Church on US 74 Business.
