Hi Carolinabirders,

Yes, the Corps indeed is planning to replace the eroded beach at the base
of the jetty with sand from Murrells Inlet which has to be dredged to keep
a channel open for boats. If the eroded beach is not replaced the jetty
would become in effect an island with no access from the park. That almost
happened this past winter. It is hoped that this new beach could be used by
nesting shorebirds and terns including Least Terns.  As far as an
environmental impact statement I don't know whether one is being done or not.
