Hilton Pond 07/29/01 (Japanese Beetles)

HI . . .

The last three days in July brought some of the best banding of the
summer, as described in the "bonus week" installment of "This Week at
Hilton Pond" for 29-31 July.

But the photo essay for this week is mainly a discussion of the
relative merits of the Japanese Beetle. Just visit
http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek010729.html and make your own
decision about this pesky little insect. This is a direct link, of
course, but please feel free to browse the rest of the Web site. :-)

To honor several requests, we've also included more complete
diagnostics for separating fledgling female Eastern Towhees from
fledgling males.

Happy Nature Watching,
