Bio-Blitz

Just a week to go to the Parkway's 5th Annual Bio-Blitz. I've had quite a few
responses in the last couple weeks from people who will be attending. The more
the merrier.

I have set up a suggested perimeter covering about 1000 acres in Price Park. We
have found that this is large enough to cover a variety of habitats but small
enough that we can cover it fairly thoroughly in the time allotted. If you'd
like a copy of the map showing the boundary I can email it to you (it's 1.3 MB
if that matters). The area includes Price Lake and Sims Pond, numerous seeps
and streams, wetlands, active cattle pastures and abandoned fields, and forests.

I was walking around the area yesterday trying to get some of the logistics
finalized. Lots of activity with birds, new born frogs, dragonflies, etc.
moving about. Not a whole lot of butterflies but still enough to make it
interesting. The beaver pond on Boone Fork is bigger and wetter than ever, just
waiting for someone to check it out. All the rain has brought out lots of fungi
and reactivated many seeps. The plants are looking green and healthy.

Registration will be at the Price Park Campground at Milepost 297 beginning
Friday August 10th at 3 pm. The blitz will wind up Sunday afternoon with a
wrap-up session at 1:30. There is a log cabin behind the entrance kiosk and
I'll be up there. There are a couple beds available if anyone needs to take a
nap after all the hard work scouring the woods.

We will also provide free camping to Bio-Blitz participants for the weekend.

Hope to see you all here on the Parkway. If you need any information please
call me at the number below.

Bob
