Cabarrus County(NC) shorebirding

Birders,
Charlotte-area birders will want to check out the former Coddle Creek
Reservoir ( now Lake Don T. Howell) betwen Concord and Davidson for
shorebirds and waders. There are extensive mudflats at the north end where
Hwy. 136 crosses. I stopped there last evening and found a nice variety .
Eight species total including semipalmated plover , lesser yellowlegs,
greater yellowlegs , pectoral sandpiper , spotted sandpiper , solitary
sandpiper , least sandpiper , killdeer . If you go to check it out be sure to
bring a scope and be prepared for roadside birding on a fairly heavily
travelled 2-lane road. This offers shorebirding opportunities that area
birders haven't enjoyed in many a year.
