Re: Expansion of Eurasian Collared-Doves

Carolina Birders:

My son-in-law participatd in a Dove hunt on Sept.1 in a rural area near
Bishopville, Lee County, SC. This county is a little over half way
between Columbia and Darlington. He reported that there were at least
three Collared-Doves killed during the hunt. I was surprised to hear
this since most of the reports of these birds are from urban and
suburban locations. Does anyone know whether the SCDNR is monitoring
these hunts in order to take note of the number taken?

Also would like to know if any tracking has been done to determine the
extent to which Mourning Doves from urban/suburban areas join the large
flocks of their rural cousins each fall.
