landsford canal

Sundays field trip to Landsford yielded 31 species on a lovely day
for the start of the fall season. Although warblers were somewhat
scarce, thrushes were not, with five swainsons thrushes putting in an
appearance. Warblers included : palm. pine,
redstarts, parulas, tennessee. and black and white.
Summer tanager. purple martins, and kestral rounded out the migrants. A
lone osprey was a welcome plus. A vireo sp was the stumper for the day.
It had a light central belly wash of yellow -{much less prominant than
philadelphia seen in numbers just last week}, and a fleetingly glimpsed
eye line or eyebrow. With all indications pointing to warbling vireo, it
did not live up to its name = saying absolutely nothing= so its species
id remains sp ! Dave Lovett- Charlotte
