Outer Banks Eateries

In response to some questions about eating here on OBX, especially for
those coming for WOW this week...

Manteo:

1587-At the waterfront--expensive, but eclectic fare, just as good as any
good restaurant in a major city.

Weeping Radish--German food is OK, but the locally brewed microbeer is
awesome. Stay too long and you may see a Sprague's Pipit anywhere.

Queen Anne's Revenge-actually in Wanchese, but excellent choices for
traditional "banks' food.

Nags Head:
Owens Seafood-traditional 'banks' seafood.
RV's--fried shrimp is great, try it with the bloomin onion sauce.
Kellys: A little expensive, great seafood, so-so on other choices.
La Fogota: Inexpensive, but very good Mexican food.
Tortuga's Lie: Caribbean food, excellent steamed shrimp-spicy.
Bad Baracuda's-Another good choice for broiled seafood and steamed shrimp.
Taikos-Hidden away in the Outer Banks Mall north wing, for all who love Sushi.
Baccu Grille: Right next to Taiko--Cuban food that's pretty close to the
real thing.

Kill Devil Hills:

Flying Fish: Another great eatery for eclectic food--anything from rack of
lamb to seafood casserole. Good wine list.

Etheridges--Another Outer Bank's style restaurant, the seafood egg rolls
are worth the visit.

Outer Banks Brewery--the food is expensive and hit or miss, but the beer is
locally made and not bad.

Good Life Gourmet--if you have time for lunch, this is on a par with any
metro area upscale deli.

Collington Cafe: Hidden on the way to Collington Island, a locals favorite.
Entree's can run $20 or more, but again, as good as anything I've had in
any large city.

Kitty Hawk:

Ocean Blvd: Expensive, but considered one of the best restaurants in the
region. This is as good as any place I've eaten in Atlanta, New Orleans, or DC.

Coastal Cactus: Southwestern style food, shrimp fajitas are a good choice.

Rundown Cafe: Another Caribbean focused eatery, lots of jerk choices.

Thai Room: Absolutely out of this world Thai food.

Goombay's: Back to the Caribbean again, try the tuna tacos or the steamed
shrimp.

Captain Franks--Lunch for under $5.00, you can guess the menu.

Chili Peppers-Can be slow, but the food is great. Lots of variety from
Middle Eastern spices to Tex-Mex.

Bessie's Place: Haven't been there, but supposed to be "down east" style
food. Jazz at night.

Duck:

Blue Point Grille

Hatteras Island:

Two very good choices are Breakwater and Austin Creek Grille--both down in
the Buxton & Hatteras area.

For breakfast, local's prefer Bob's Grill in Kitty Hawk, and TL's in
Manteo, and the Sunday buffet at the Dunes.
