VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
START DATE:  16 January 2002
WILDLIFE BIOLOGIST: Salary $40,591.20 plus benefits.  Full-time temporary
position, 22 months.
Location:  Job requires frequent travel throughout the FL-GA-SC project area
but will likely be headquartered in the Southeastern Coastal Plain of
Georgia.  Some flexibility of location within the state of Georgia is
possible.

Minimum Qualifications:  Completion of an undergraduate major in wildlife
biology, conservation biology, ecology, ornithology, natural resources
management or related field including a minimum of 3 courses (15 quarter
hours or equivalent) in wildlife management or related subject and one year
of professional level experience. Successful candidate's background must
include experience in project coordination including reporting and budget
management.  Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
Candidate should also possess background and knowledge of natural resources
management and conservation planning.

Preferred Qualifications:  Preference will be given to candidates that have
completed a Master's degree in wildlife biology, conservation biology,
ornithology, ecology, zoology or other natural resources field.  Preference
will be given to candidates with experience in coordinating complex
conservation projects and in writing both scientific and management-oriented
documents.   Knowledge of southeastern habitats and conservation priorities
as well as experience in raptor conservation is preferred. Experience in
using computers for word processing, communication, and data management as
well as GIS systems particularly ArcView is preferred.  Experience in grant
management and reporting is preferred.  Extensive travel in the three-state
project area is required.  In order to maintain project continuity,
commitment to complete the 2-year project is preferred.
Responsibilities: The candidate will be expected to coordinate the
multi-state swallow-tailed kite initiative involving Florida, Georgia, and
South Carolina.  The coordinator will work with a team with representation
from each state to develop a distribution map and assess the status and
conservation needs of subpopulations throughout the three-state area.  The
coordinator will be responsible for setting up workshops and meetings,
maintaining communication, meeting both jointly and independently with state
representatives to obtain and assimilate data, and coordinating with a GIS
specialist in developing a distribution map based on common themes across
state lines.  The coordinator will work with the team and other experts to
develop a regional conservation strategy and a long term monitoring plan for
nesting and foraging areas.  The coordinator will be responsible for all
aspects of project management including writing interim and final reports,
tracking the project budget, and meeting grant requirements.  Extensive
travel in the three-state area will be required.  Assistance with some field
work will be involved and may include aerial surveys for nesting and
foraging areas, capture and radio-marking kites, radio telemetry and video
monitoring, and landowner outreach.  Vehicle, computer, travel and office
support provided.
