Hello, this is a December 17 update of the Carolina Rare Bird Alert featuring 
birding news from North and South Carolina sponsored by the Carolina Bird 
Club. Highlights on this report include:

WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS
GOLDEN EAGLES
WHITE PELICANS
WESTERN KINBIRDS
WHITE-WINGED DOVE
POMARINE JAEGER

A flock of 10-14 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS are being seen around the   museum 
at Grandfather Mt. in NC. The birds wander erratically but patient birders 
have been rewarded with close-up views of the birds as they feed in the 
spruce and on the feeders around the museum.

GOLDEN EAGLES were seen at Mattamuskeet NWR on 12-6  and at Alligator River 
NWR on Dec. 8.

4 WHITE PELICANS continue to be seen at Mattamuskeet NWR.

WESTERN KINGBIRDS have been seen on the Outer Banks recently. On Dec. 7, two 
birds were on wires at milepost 53 south of Salvo. On Dec. 15, three birds 
were seen together at Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo.

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was seen in Beaufort, NC on Dec. 5 at the Ocean View 
Cemetery.

A POMARINE JAEGER was seen from the beach at Hilton Head , SC
