Green-tailed Towhee, Yes, and A-T Fly, NO?

Dear Birders:

This AM at 7:20, Sunday, 13th, we (Carolyn Bush and I) drove up to the
bird-seeded & cleared site on left of Shephard in Southport and Mike Tove
spotted THE Towhee a minute later. He had already seen it once. We all
got good looks. Mr. Irvin was there also. We waited a bit and enjoyed the
parade of species eating the seed including 2 or 3 green Painted Buntings,
White-crowned sparrows (which were also singing), and the usual species.
He peeped out, but didn't completely show himself til John Fussell
accompanied by assorted other birders arrived some several minutes later.
We all got good views again. We then left having satisfied ourselves with
our views of this great North Carolina sighting.

Our thanks to those who were sharp enough to find the bird and then to
improve this bird-friendly habitat.

Spent 3 hours on Sat., yesterday, the 12th, from 10:20 to 1:20 looking at
the Ash-throated Flycatcher's favorite intersection. This in addition to
the 4 hours spent last Sunday AM, the 6th, before the big rain, all to no
avail. I left the Copleys still watching yesterday . . . A lot of
circumstances prevented this retiree from getting to the site sooner, darn.

I had also stopped at Island #3 of the Ches. Bridge-Tunnel, but all the Mew
gulls had rings on their bills. There were some Surf Scoters and OLDSQUAW.

Good birding. Expect to get back to the Towhee site later this week and
will report.
