Audubon in NC 100th anniversary events

There are two events coming up this weekend of interest to Carolina
birders and natural history aficionados:
1-Celebration of 100 years of the Audubon Society in North Carolina.
This conference will be held at UNC-CH on Saturday, March 2. See:
http://www.ncaudubon.org/
for details.

2-There is an associated field trip, sponsored by New Hope Audubon
Society and the North Carolina Botanical Garden, to Mason Farm in
Chapel Hill. (All are welcome to attend.) Details:

Sunday, March 3, 2002, 9:00 a.m. Mason Farm--Birds, Beasts, and
Books. Join NHAS, Audubon North Carolina, and the NC Botanical Garden
for the ultimate trip to Mason Farm. We will "walk the loop" with a
running commentary on ecology, ornithology, and literature. Leaders
will be: Phil Manning (literature), Johnny Randall (ecology), and
Haven Wiley (ornithology). A key part of our discussion will be John
Terres' award winning book From Laurel Hill to Siler's Bog: The
Walking Adventures of a Naturalist in which Terres shares Mason Farm
in great detail.

Rendezvous at the Totten Center of the NC Botanical Garden parking
lot at 9:00 a.m. and we will car-pool to Mason Farm. The walk will
last approximately three hours over level ground. Bring binoculars,
field guides, and drinking water. Be sure to dress appropriately for
the weather. Note that there are no facilities at Mason Farm. No
sign-up required, but contact field trip chair Patrick Coin
(patrick@coinconsult.net) if you need any more information.
