Saw my first one of the season in Charlotte yesterday while out trying to
locate an owl nest. Male in excellent plumage, sharp as a tack.
Since the urge to discover often strikes this time of year, here is a gentle
reminder that when it comes to private property, we should always be invited
or permitted guests. The property owner of the place where I saw the
aforementioned warbler is very touchy about his property and had I not
cautiously approached him about my owl project and thus my interest in his
birds, I would have never been allowed to use his property. Had I not made
contact and just wandered on in, I might have wandered out with a load of
buckshot warming my backside. Asking permission often accomplishes more than
achieving access.
