Volunteers Needed

Volunteers Wanted: The Nature Conservancy's Sandhills Program is looking
for a few hard workers for patrolling of lands trash pick-up, reporting of
any hazardous activity or debris, monitoring of plant or animal populations,
participating in planting, and providing information to visitors. We also
need volunteers willing to participate in prescribed burns - a physical
fitness test and training is required for this work. We would need help of
a quarterly or as needed basis. There are many opportunities to bird these
tracts, such as viewing of the red-cockaded woodpecker and other species
that inhabit the long-leaf pine ecosystem. We also have eight Carolina Bays
in Hoke and Robeson Counties where we need volunteer preserve stewards. You
would be doing us a great service as well as helping to save one of our
nation's most endangered bird species. For more information, please call
Kathy Kay at The Nature Conservancy Southern Pines Office at (910) 246-0300.
