West Nile Virus - Request for Information

Good morning,

Jim Mulholland asked participants at the Wake Audubon Migratory Bird Day Count
to please report any signs of SICK birds as soon as they are sighted for
potential testing of West Nile Virus. Symptoms may include unusual or drunken
behavior. Apparently the virus is only detectable for a 24 hour period after
death so the virus may not be detected in a dead bird. For more information
check the following web site with links to many other sites:

This paragraph is taken from that web site:

WEST NILE VIRUS - In North Carolina, state health officials urge people to
report dead birds to the Public Health Pest Management Section by calling (877)
790-1747 or sending e-mail to
ncwnv@ncmail.net. Crows, bluejays and hawks seem to be the most susceptible.

Good birding,
