I know this is a weird post, but if there are any
martin experts out there, please advise.
Last week while at Perry Harrison School in N. Chatham
Co. I thought I saw a "swallow" fly into the exhaust
pipes of a parked school bus. I kept looking for it to
"come out" but never saw it and figured I imagined it
or that the bird went under the bus.
Then yesterday Shelley Theye calls and said she saw
purple martins taking Nesting Material!! into the
exhaust pipe of a school bus at a DIFFERENT school in
N.Chatham Co.(N. Chatham school). She saw it go in and
out with pine straw into the pipe. This is a couple of
feet off the ground at the most.
Any ideas about this? There is a "martin" house at the
school with tiny holes. Maybe if we drilled bigger
holes and put the house in appropriate spot?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Kate
