On 5/26/02 my father and I birded many areas in the surrounding area around
Julian Price Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We camped the night before and
started out at
6 AM. All of the trails below are listed in Birds of the Blue Ridge, and all
the spots were within mile markers 290 and 298. We got a total of 71
species.

Alder Flycatcher-1 very active in the bog- new species for me

Green Knob Trail: This began at Sim's Pond. The trail was gorgeous with
massive 5ft+ diameter Eastern Hemlocks. This was the best birding of the
day.

Also had Wild Turkey along the Parkway.
The Yellow-crowned Night Heron rookery here in suburban Charlotte is up to
14 adults and 12 youngsters. This rookery has been present for at least 30
years, and is smack dab in the neighborhood.
