Dear Carolinabirders,
This morning Wade Fuller, Bob Holmes, Rich and I went to Nags Head to find
the White-faced Ibis. We arrived after Jeff Lewis and Wayne Irvin and
others had left, about 9:30. The White-faced Ibis was in about the same
location and we got good looks at it. Then, feeling quite successful, we
went down the beach to Bodie Island, the marina, and Pea Island and at the
latter found the report of a sighting of a Curlew Sandpiper written in the
log by Ricky Davis. We went to South Pond and scoped it for a while, but to
no avail. While the guys were still scoping the pond, I decided to scan the
skies over the beach and immediately spotted a Magnificent Frigatebird
soaring over the water. It was a juvenile and we watched it for a good 30
minutes as it soared over the shallows. All together a GRAND NC bird day.
Good Birding!
