Hi Carolinabirders,
This morning Paul Rogers and I met Bob Maxwell at Huntington Beach S.P.,
Murrells Inlet, Georgetown County, SC for a half day of birding. We were
joined by two birding ladies from Greenville. The temps were in the
high 80's with off and on brisk southerly winds. 35 species:
Brown Pelican-5
Great Blue Heron-2
Great Egret-1
Snowy Egret-2
Little Blue Heron-3 including a bright pied individual
Tricolored Heron-2
Green Heron-6
White Ibis-2
Turkey Vulture-2
Osprey-1
Clapper Rail-1 heard only
Black-necked Stilt-4 adult and three young
Willet-4 fly overs at Mullet Pond
Chimney Swift-4
Ruby-throated Hummingbird-2
Belted Kingfisher-2
Red-bellied Woodpecker-1
Downy Woodpecker-1
Great Crested Flycatcher-2 heard only
Purple Martin-15
Barn Swallow-1
Fish Crow-2
Carolina Chickadee-1
Tufted Titmouse-2
N. Mockingbird-4
Louisiana Waterthrush-1 heard singing. Thought at first a Swainson's
Warbler but lacked the explosive early notes and had a few chips at the
end of the song. I played the tape of both songs at home and Louisiana
matched well.
N. Cardinal-5
Indigo Bunting-1 male singing
Painted Bunting-2 female or immature and a male singing from the top of
a pine.
Red-winged Blackbird-2 males
Boat-tailed Grackle-4
Brown-headed Cowbird-2 a female and male.
Good birding and good company.
