Jordan Lake mudflats trip Saturday

The Chapel Hill Bird Club is having its first field trip of the season this
Saturday, August 3. We'll be heading to the mudflats on the Morgan Creek
arm of Jordan Lake (http://www.duke.edu/~cwcook/tbg/morgan.html). It'll be
a fairly long hike, but this time we'll get there via a shorter route than
normal, from the end of Whippoorwill Lane (we got permission to cut through
private land). We expect to see shorebirds, waders, and maybe a few ducks.
With any luck we may see the wandering Wood Storks, which have been seen at
the nearby New Hope Creek mudflats.

We'll leave at 7:30 am from the Glen Lennox parking lot on the north side of
NC 54, just east of the intersection with US 15-501. No registration is
required and visitors are welcome. Bring water, snacks, shoes you don't
mind getting a little muddy, and a scope if you have one. The trip should
return around noon or so. Doug Shadwick is leading this trip - feel free to
contact him for more details (919-942-0479, e-mail: dougshadwick@aol.com).

Hope to see you there!
