Falls Lake mudflats trip Saturday

The Chapel Hill Bird Club is having a field trip this Saturday, August 10,
and y'all are welcome to join us. We'll be heading to various mudflats on
the western side of Falls Lake. We expect to see shorebirds, waders, and
maybe a few ducks. The best birds seen there recently are some Stilt
Sandpipers, but you never know what might show up. We'll start at the
Hickory Hill boat ramp, then check out a couple of other areas that look
good, perhaps the flats on the west side of Will Suitt Road and the Ellerbee
Creek mudflats/RR trestle area.

Folks in Chapel Hill can meet us at 7:30 am at the Glen Lennox parking lot
on the north side of NC 54, just east of the intersection with US 15-501.
Folks living closer to Falls Lake can meet us at the Hickory Hill boat ramp
on Redwood Road at about 8:15 am. To get there from Durham, take I-85 north
to the Redwood Road exit (183), head east on Redwood for a mile or less,
then turn left at the Hickory Hill boat ramp sign. Meet at the boat ramps
at the end of the road.

No registration is required; visitors are welcome. Bring water, snacks,
shoes you don't mind getting a little muddy, and a scope if you have one.
The trip should return around noon or so. I'm leading this trip - feel free
to contact me for more details (e-mail or call 919-382-9134).

Hope to see you there!

By the way, I've posted a couple of photos from last week's Jordan Lake trip
to the CHBC web site -- see the bottom of http://www.duke.edu/~cwcook/chbc/
