A very pleasant morning on the Buckeye Trail in east Raleigh ended around
11:00 am with a visit to the impoundment on Raleigh Blvd. One of the three
Great Blue Heron nests which were active last year was occupied by a GBH and
another was feeding in the shallows. Also feeding in the shallows were two
Great Egrets. Two immature Double-crested Cormorants were taking the sun and
a pair of Fish Crows were croaking in the willows. Quite a different scene
from what would have been expected not so many years ago.
