April 28: We birded mostly from our canoe on Merchants
Millpond, but also walked part of Lassiter Trail near
the group camp ground.
>From the canoe:
parula
prothonotary
yellow-throated warbler
eastern bluebird
eastern kingbird
orchard oriole, male
carolina wren
carolina chickadee
great-crested flycatcher
blue-grey gnatcatcher
hairy woodpecker
white-breasted nuthatch
wood duck
canada geese
great blue heron
>From the trail:
pine warbler
common yellowthroat
summer tanager
orchard oriole, male and female
black and white warbler
On this trip, we didn't see any alligators; about
three weeks ago we were lucky and saw one about 7 feet
long out on a log. There are only 3-4 alligators on
the millpond.
Here's some info if anyone would like to go. It's in
Gates County. You can rent canoes there. HIghly
